Ariel Sharon, and God's Wrath?

In January 2006, Pat Robertson, televangelist, claimed that Ariel Sharon, leader of Israel, suffered a stroke because he surrendered the Gaza strip to the Palestinians. The land belongs to Israel, claims Robertson, and Sharon violated God’s promises, so, God struck him! Some conservative Jewish leaders in Israel have said the same thing. However, they are wrong. Why? Because that land no longer belongs to Israel by divine right.

One of the most popular, but erroneous, claims is that Israel has never received all of the land that God promised to Abraham in Genesis 15. A new book, Upholding our Future Hope, An Apostolic Response to Preterism, claims that "there has never been a time in Jewish history when Israel possessed all the land promised to Abraham."

Let’s see what the Bible says.

Joshua 21:43-45
"The Lord gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it, and dwelt in it. "

Scripture could not be clearer. At the end of the period of conquest, God gave Israel all the land promised to Abraham.

1 Kings 4:20-21
During the time of the United Kingdom, "Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines as far as the border of Egypt."

As many scholars have noted, this is actually a larger territory than originally promised in Genesis. So, Israel not only possessed all the land promised, they possessed more.

Nehemiah 9:7-8
After the return from Babylonian captivity, Nehemiah said, "You are the Lord God Who chose Abram… and made a covenant with him to give him the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites and the Gergashites. You have performed your words, for You are faithful."

Did Nehemiah believe that Israel had never possessed the land?

There are other equally emphatic passages. Israel did possess all the land. They possessed more than the original land promise. God did not strike Sharon for taking the land away from Israel — the land does not belong to Israel.

I have written a book, Israel 1948, Countdown to No Where. In it, I show not only that Israel possessed the land, but that their possession of the land was always conditional. I also show that Israel’s possession of the land "forever" did not mean that she would possess the land unendingly. Further, I show that the events of 1948 were not the fulfillment of prophecy. This is a powerful, effective book, so order yours today.
